M.K. Lawrence writes stories that draw upon history to ask questions still relevant to the present. His love of fiction started early with sneaking in books to read past bedtime and never stopped. He has a particular fascination with classical antiquity and mythology, with his work often aspiring to find that same blend of history, fantasy, and folk wisdom.

He’s drawn to fiction as a space for exploring philosophy and identity, fueled by his own experiences with neurodivergence and bisexuality. Many of his protagonists see their worlds with different wiring than most, with themes of authenticity and belonging common across his work. He uses his writing as a way to explore complex moral and emotional themes from different perspectives, and believes stories are at their most powerful when they let a reader see multiple sides and draw their own conclusions.
His short story “Ourania’s Curse” will appear in Dragon Street Press’s Grab Bag #4, coming fall 2026. He is a member of Cincinnati Fiction Writers.
When he isn’t writing fiction, Lawrence is a software engineer and also designs narrative-forward video games under the Lupo Artico Studios banner. His game projects can be found at lupoartico.com.
He lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with two very opinionated dogs.
